Recovery of Economic Minerals from Graphite Float of Rajpura Dariba mines

A 3000 tpd lead-zinc ore beneficiation plant was commissioned in 1983 to produce lead and zinc concentrates suitable for Indian smelters. The problems encountered in the production of individual concentrates are mainly high graphite and lower lead grade in lead concentrate and high silica in zinc concentrate. Due to variable nature of ore quality, Graphite mica - schist, the incidence of high graphite and lower grade of lead in lead concentrates can be explained and taken care by use of pre flotation of graphite and by gravity techniques. It has been observed during extensive laboratory scale testing by in-house R&D of HZL and by the National Laboratories in India and plant operations for over a decade that incidence of graphite mica -schist in the ore affects zinc flotation only to a limited extent whereas lead metallurgy is adversely affected. Hence one of the methods tried was pre-flotation of graphite ahead of lead-zinc selective flotation. In this paper, efforts made towards recovery of lead and zinc minerals present in the pre-graphite float are discussed. The studies include lead and zinc depressionduring reverse flotation, graphite depression and lead flotation and use of gravity techniques. The results indicate that gravity techniques are effective in removing most of the liberated graphite, thereby ensuring enrichment of lead and zinc minerals present in the higher specific gravity fractions, which can be recirculated and recovered in the plant

    Calcium

    Get PDF
Calcium in tissues of crustaceans exists in two states namely diffusible and non-diffusible. Diffusible calcium is also referred to as dialysable and ultra filterable calcium, which includes free calcium ions and calcium complexed with carbonate, citrate, phosphate and free acidic amino acids. Non-diffusible calcium is referred to as non-dialysable calcium and non-ultra filterable calcium. It is also commonly called as bound-calcium. In this state, calcium may be bound to proteins, lipids and acidic mucosubstances. Bound calcium is precipitable with 80% ethanol. The supernatant will contain dialysable fraction. Complete precipitation of bound calcium is achieved by diluting the tissues twenty times with ethanol (Kannan & Ravindranath, 1980)

The Influence of GRA and TOPSIS for Assortment of Green Supply Chain Management Strategies in Cement Industry

    Get PDF
The present paper aimed at proposing new strategies for evaluating the green supply chain management for enhancing the priority to environmental factors in cement manufacturing life cycle analysis, there by reducing the carbon foot prints. These strategies help in producing eco-friendly products there striking the balance between economy and environment. Initially green supply chain priorities are defined by using grey relational analysis (GRA). The priority weights obtained by GRA method is used to determine the weight for each indicator selected in the present study and then GRA is combined with TOPSIS methodology to obtain the priority for level-II measurement indicators used in the present study. These strategies will influence the decision making priorities during cement manufacturing. Keywords - Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM), strategy prioritization, Grey Relational Analysis (GRA), TOPSIS, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA

Rat brain cytochromes P-450: catalytic, immunochemical properties and inducibility of multiple forms

    Get PDF
Cytochrome P-450 (P-450) and associated mono-oxygenase activities were estimated in male and female rat brain microsomes. The P-450 concentration in male rat brain was one-tenth the corresponding hepatic levels, which is considerably higher than earlier reports. A distinct sex-related difference was observed in the levels of total P-450 and mono-oxygenase activities known to be mediated by P-450b,e; the female brain levels were 60% of those in the males. Immunoinhibition and immunoblot studies using antisera to P-450b,e and P-450c,d indicated the presence of multiple forms of P-450, immunologically similar to P-450b,e, P-450c and P-450d in the rat brain. Prior treatment with phenobarbital resulted in two-fold increase of total P-450 and selective induction of aminopyrine N-demethylase (APD) and morphine N-demethylase (MND) activities. Administration of 3-methylcholanthrene, selectively induced the levels of ethoxycoumarin O-deethylase (ECD) and arylhydrocarbon hydroxylase, although the levels of total P-450 were not increased. 3-Methylcholanthrene induction was also accompanied by a shift in the absorption maximum of the reduced carbon monoxide difference spectrum from 452 to 448 nm. Immunocytochemical localization using antibodies to P-450b,e indicated the presence of P-450 predominantly in the neuronal cell bodies and to a lesser extent in the fibre tracts in cerebral cortex, cerebellum, thalamus, hypothalamus, hippocampus and brainstem. These studies indicate that the brain contains significant amounts of P-450, which exists in multiple forms and can be selectively induced by prior exposure to phenobarbital or 3-methylcholanthrene

Layout design of user interface components with multiple objectives

    Get PDF
A multi-goal layout problem may be formulated as a Quadratic Assignment model, considering multiple goals (or factors), both qualitative and quantitative in the objective function. The facilities layout problem, in general, varies from the location and layout of facilities in manufacturing plant to the location and layout of textual and graphical user interface components in the human–computer interface. In this paper, we propose two alternate mathematical approaches to the single-objective layout model. The first one presents a multi-goal user interface component layout problem, considering the distance-weighted sum of congruent objectives of closeness relationships and the interactions. The second one considers the distance-weighted sum of congruent objectives of normalized weighted closeness relationships and normalized weighted interactions. The results of first approach are compared with that of an existing single objective model for example task under consideration. Then, the results of first approach and second approach of the proposed model are compared for the example task under consideration

Seed dryers for experiment stations, design, construction, and testing of a prototype

    Get PDF
In order to maintain viability and superior seed quality it is essential that seeds be stored in properly conditioned and safe storage facilities after drying to required mositure content. In case of germplasm and breeders' seed in an experiment station, it becomes all the more essential that seed drying and storage be carried out with utmost care since the seed involved is valuable and if lost cannot be reproduced. The moisture content of seed at harvest is too high to permit safe storage. The seed, therefore, has to be dried to safer levels of moisture for storing. Similarly material from yield trials is required to be brought to a uniform level of moisture for comparative analysis. In addition to seed, there are a number of plant samples that the researchers need to dry for analysis
